This question came up in my French interview, and I was later told what they had liked about my answer.Studying French at Oxford involves a lot of French literature analysis, and when they asked me about this book I was able to readily talk about important themes (film/illness/love) and the way in which the author presented them. For example, the overarching love story in this biography is Carrel's love for her mother, which we discover at the end when we realise that the book is dedicated to her. I also talked about the structure of the book, so the way that Carrel describes childhood memories in a simple way, and then the reader hears her adult voice passing judgement on events, allowing the reader a dual vision of her life. This was useful in my application because it showed that I had an interest in literature, and that I already possessed some of the skills that would then be built upon over my degree.
