First Past the Post (FPTP) is the best elective system

In an A- level exam a student would be expected to make a several points, with examples and an evaluation, ending with a conclusion. An Example of one of these points may be:FPTP is the best elective system as it reduces the chances of extremist parties gaining power. FPTP is a system that elects one winner per constituency. This winner is the candidate with the most votes, such as Chris Philp in the South Croydon constituency. FPTP creates a two party system as over time people use tactical voting, indirectly filtering out parties, leaving the two most catch all parties. This has been proven to be the case in almost every country where this is system is used, such as the UK and the USA. In the UK the most extremist party in the recent years to have some impact as the BNP (British Nationalist Party). The BNP in 2010 got 563,743 votes nationwide, but never gained any seats in parliament due to the FPTP system. However, some argue this to be a bad thing, as it means that diversity of thought is somewhat stagnated, as only the two major parties have enough influence for their ideas to matter. Both usually sitting somewhere near the centre of the political spectrum, making the FPTP system less effective at producing new policy.
