You can use the verb 'ser' when talking about something temporary eg. emotion: soy feliz - I am happy, physical characteristic: soy baja - I am small. Ser is also used with time eg. son las once - it's 11 o'clock, when using the passive eg. el edificio fue construida - the building was built and nationality eg. soy de mexico - I am from Mexico.The verb 'estar' can be used when referring to something in terms of place or position eg. Miguel está en la escuela - Miguel is at the school, using the gerund eg. estoy haciendo trabajo - I am doing work, marital status eg. estoy casada - I am married.Ser/estar eg. the date, price of something,.Exceptions: la fiesta es aquí, es pobre.
