What is the indirect statement and how is it formed?

an indirect statement is an example of reported speech. In Latin, it can be formed in only one way, which renders the subject of the statement in the accusative case (as opposed to the usual nominative), and the verb can be found in the infinitive, following the introductory verb in the main clause. When translating into English, we usually supply a “that” between the verb of saying/thinking and the speech being reported.
