My paper asks me to write a formal letter for a job application. How should I structure it and what should it include?

As part of the written exam, students are often asked this. This is most likely to be in the form of a formal job application letter. Possible points to cover during lesson:(1) Structure: - Where to put the recipient address, sender address and date of the letter.- How to address the recipient (Estimado/a Sr/Sra…).- How to close the letter (Le saluda atentamente).(2) Content: - Personal profile and credentials (datos personales incluyendo edad, estudios, experiencia profesional)- Motivation for the job and questions about the role (tipo de trabajo, horario, sueldo)- Availability (fechas cuando estarás disponible).- Interests. (3) Vocabulary and Grammar: - Use of a variety of tenses. - Use of polite ‘usted’ throughout the letter. Discuss reasoning behind this. - Useful phrases which will impress the examiner and ensure the formal nature of the letter:             - connectives such as ‘en respuesta a’, ‘por lo tanto’, ‘en este momento’,             - labour-market vocab such as ‘el sueldo’, ‘de camarera’,             - other useful expressions such as ‘Agradeciéndole de antemano su atención’. It may also be helpful to discuss with the student how to approach a task like this. For example, it would be important to check that they plan their written tasks beforehand and that they read through them after to check for errors.
