The best technique I have learned for this is the ABC technique. This is an easy method to give your personal statement a good structure and make sure that only relevant information will be included. The fist thing one should do is think about all the aspects that make you different to all the other applicants. Here you should include all the activities you have done that make you stand out. This could be either voluntary work, special group projects, leading positions such as prefects, any social work you have done, any won competitions... The second step is to mention how this activity benefited you. For example you could stay that because you have done voluntary work you developed patience and perseverance. The third step would be to link the benefit you got from the activity to the course you want to study. For example: When doing voluntary work in India I developed my teaching skill which will be a benefit to me when studying education as I have learned how to adapt to certain behaviour.
