How to compare cognitive and biological approaches for a 16 marker? I find it difficult to find and structure my ideas.

For a good 16 marker you need 4-5 points/paragraphs. Before you start writing anything, it is always good to have a plan. If the main difficulty is comparing and contrasting these two approaches, lets think about things that make them similar first. For example, do you think a statement that ‘both approaches emphasise the importance of the study of the brain for psychology’ is true for both approaches? Yes, the fact that the brain plays a vital role in psychological processes is one of the key assumptions of both approaches. At this point, you are applying the SEC technique (State Evidence Conclude) as this is your 'Statement'. Then, you should get some 'Evidence' to support this statement of similarity. To find evidence it is always best to think about the research methods e.g. experiments, case studies etc. used by the approaches. For instance, for cognitive approach you can talk about PET brain scans for memory studies and for the biological approach look at the studies which look at neurotransmitters. Then to conclude, you can sum up what you have said to reinforce your Statement. The same could be done for the differences between the approaches in the next paragraphs.

Overall, these are key things which will make everything much easier:1.      Think about similarities and difference in assumptions, methods of research and applications e.g. psychotherapy.2.      Remember the SEC technique.3.      Create your Statement.4.      Zoom in by bringing some Evidence.5.      Conclude to reinforce your Statement.
