Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using biofuels in the UK (4).

One advantage of biofuels is that they can help to reduce CO2 emissions, by growing plants that photosynthesise, meaning any CO2 released is more balanced than with fossil fuels.Biofuels are also renewable sources of energy, unlike fossil fuels, so there is a far greater supply and they can be produced more readily for a faster growing population. However, in the UK a lot of land is required for farming, and biofuel growth may prevent land being used for food and agriculture, which reduces land for this purpose. Finally, biofuels aren't carbon neutral, as they often require areas to be deforested and plants that photosynthesise more than the biofuels would, meaning they can never be wholly carbon neutral and may not be as good of an option as hydrogen fuels, for example.
