Describe the 3 types of plate boundaries.

Destructive/convergent - this is when two plates are moving towards each other. When it is a continental plate meeting with an oceanic plate, the oceanic plate is the denser of the two and will be forced down into the mantle. Composite volcanoes often form here. Constructive/divergent - this is when two plates are moving away from each other. The rift will cause magma to rise from the mantle, making them prone to volcanoes. Shield volcanoes often form here. Conservative/transform - this is when two plates are sliding next to each other. They will often move at different rates and in slightly different directions. When they jolt or clash, this can cause earthquakes. Volcanoes do not occur at these plate boundaries.
