What were the key reasons for Hitler's rise to power?

Hitler's rise to power was not due to one event but rather, it was the result of a number of factors and events occurring both inside Germany and abroad. This question requires you to define the social and political situation in Germany pre-1919, before discussing Hitler's physical rise to power between 1919 and 1933. This means discussing the impact of WW1 on Germany - reparations, hyperinflation and unemployment - and public reactions to the 1920 Treaty of Versailles. This background information is important for creating a coherent description of the situation in Germany which allowed Hitler and the Nazi Party to win the public vote. Once you have provided this context you will want to think about the key themes and concepts which drove Hitler to power and the way in which you want to structure your essay. Rather than taking a purely chronological approach, you should structure your essay based on time frame (long, medium and short-term reasons) or conceptually e.g. social, political and economic factors. Both structures will allow you to discuss key events such as the 1923 Munich Putsch and 1929 Wall Street Crash as well as key elements such as the re-structuring of the Party, the 25-point programme and Nazi propaganda. Most importantly, structuring your essay in this way will allow you to determine the most and least important factors which attributed to Hitler's rise.
