Mitosis is important in the life of a multi-cellular organism. Explain why and how mitosis works.

Mitosis allows for growth and development of a living organism. The genetic material inside each cell is doubled as the chromosomes are doubled. The chromosomes line up in the centre of the cell and are pulled apart to opposite poles of the cell. The cytoplasm and cell membranes divide resulting in two identical cells.
