Personal statements are just that, personal. The admissions staff want to know about you, so don't be shy! Everyone has a different story to tell, and has experienced the world in a different way. Think about how the experiences, both good and bad, have led you to this moment in time. Why do you want to do the course? Your reasons will have been shaped by these experiences, and will be different to everyone else's reasons. For example, imagine a student applying for veterinary medicine. They both love animals and science. But why? One may have grown up on a sheep farm and gotten heavily involved in lambing season. These experiences will have taught them so much about sheep husbandry, behaviour and farm management. This may have led them to want to learn more, so they did work experience, and here they are, ready to learn about it all through a veterinary degree. Another student may have done work experience at a vet clinic at the age of 16 and come around to the idea of veterinary much later than other students. But since then, they have gone on to do such a varied and extensive amount of work experience that they feel confident that this is the satisfying career they want to pursue.See how they came to the same point- of writing their personal statement- in very different routes? Now apply this to your own life, show them what you have to offer because of what you've been through.
