How do you form the preterite tense in Spanish?

For a regular Spanish '-ar' verb, for example 'hablar' - to speak, we remove the -ar ending and replace it with the endings as follows:I - éyou - astehe/she - ówe - amosyou (pl.) - asteisthey - aronThe structure is the same for '-er' and '-ir' verbs. The endings however are slightly different:I - íyou - istehe/she - iówe - imosyou (pl.) - isteis they - ieronThere are also a number of irregular verbs which must be learned individually as they don't follow a pattern, but they are logical!
