How do I write a good structural analysis?

This questions requires you to provide examples of how the writer uses structural techniques to build and shift focus throughout the journey of the piece. Thus it lends itself to an answer presented chronologically e.g. writing a paragraph about the beginning, middle and end sections of the extract; but also calls for recognition of techniques found throughout the text. There is likely to be a notable shift in the style of writing, which should not be ignored as symbolic of a 'turning point'. The moment itself is useful to comment on e.g. where in the extract the turning point has been placed, what is the nature/mood of the shift, what has come directly before and after, how has the moment been marked? This is a good opportunity to then comment on the structural features that withstand the mood-change (repetitions or reiterations, 1st/3rd person), what does this allow to the writer to emphasize? Similarly, you should comment on significant changes in structure that may accompany the writer's change in style and approach (setting -often through the senses, the portrayal of time, chronological or random retelling). This will demonstrate your understanding of the specific and conscious efforts the writer makes to keep the reader's focus aligned with their own (protagonist, significant event, foreboding, conclusions).
