Describe the factors which affect the rate of diffusion.

Ficks law outlines the factors that affect diffusion. Diffusion gradient is the difference in concentration of the molecule either side of the membrane, the greater the difference the faster the diffusion. Membrane thickness, the thinner the membrane the faster the diffusion. The greater the surface area the faster the diffusion as there is more area for the molecule to diffuse over. The higher the temperature, the faster the diffusion as the particles move faster.
