How did Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party consolidate their power by 1934?

This question will probably be worth around 6 marks in the exam depending on what exam board is being sat. A general rule of thumb is that if a question is worth 6 marks then 6 pieces of information will be needed to gain full marks. This question is also likely to contain information that is interchangeable with other parts of the exam and therefore is a common topic to revise. To gain full marks one should reference: 'Hitler appointed Chancellor (1933), 'The Reichstag Fire' (27 February 1933), 'The Enabling Act' (23 March 1933), 'The Creation of a single party state' (1933) 'The Night of the Long Knives' (30 June 1934), Hitler becomes Fuhrer after the death of Hindenburg (August 1934). By recalling the names and dates of key events you will show excellent recollection of knowledge however one also has to be able to apply this knowledge in order to gain full marks. You will have to be succinct in your answer but also explain enough about the importance of each event and why it gave more power to the Nazi's and allowed Hitler to become the Fuhrer.
