How do you conjugate 'Passato Remoto' (the present perfect) in Italian?

1. Does the verb require the auxiliary 'essere' or 'avere'

    - Verbs that take essere: reflexive verbs, transitive verbs

    - Vebs that take avere: most other verbs

2. Make the past participle

    - Take the infinitive of the verb e.g.  cantare

    - Remove the ending to get the stem e.g. cant(-are)

- Add the ending for the type of verb (remember to watch out for irregular verbs)

    - -are verbs --> ato

    - -ere verbs --> uto

    - -ire verbs --> ito
