Explain why the pancreas is described as both an endocrine and an exocrine organ.

Endocrine = secretes directly into the blood stream(usually hormones)Exocrine = secretes via ducts to a specific place or area (usually enzymes)
The pancreas has a dual function. As an endocrine organ, it secretes insulin and glucagon hormones directly into the blood stream to regulate blood glucose levels throughout the day. As an exocrine organ, it secretes pancreatic fluid (which contains many digestive enzymes) into the pancreatic duct which the enters the duodenum via the Ampulla of Vater.
