In the exam, is it necessary to know quotes from a book word for word?

It is not essential that you spend lots of time learning quotes perfectly, although it does show good textual understanding. Rather than worrying too much about taking the time to learn long passages, learn some concise quotes that could be applicable across different themes or for a general introduction of the text. Though this is desirable, sometimes exam panic can take over and we forget what we have revised. In this case, paraphrasing a text or outlining the act or the chapter in which something happened also shows good knowledge of the text and plot.
