How was your understanding of cultural and contextual considerations of the work developed through the interactive oral of Metamorphosis

Upon reading Metamorphosis I had not considered the importance of temporal and spacial however the interactive oral greatly deepened my understanding, as we discussed the relevance of cultural, social and contextual considerations through time and place, as we explored connections and similarities between cultural and social issues in the book and from our culture and society.
Whilst reading Metamorphosis I had not realised that Kafka may have used the space in the apartment as a symbol to portray the Samsa family dynamics but also Gregors insignificance to his family and possibly society as whole as the family home could be a microcosm representation of society which is important as it links to a biographical approach where similarly Kafka was a minority in his society being a Jew in Germany. This may be depicted as Gregor is banned from leaving his room, even to listen to his sister play the violin in the living room which is generally known as the family-room which may represent his family rejection and portraying him as a minority. After the discussion I realised the similarities between Kafka and Gregors family dynamics and role as a minority in the family as they both were oppressed by their fathers in giving up their dreams and desires to succumbing to their expectations which allowed me to further my understanding as it allowed me to acknowledge Nobakovs interpretation with Gregor being trapped by him family preventing him of achieving his full potential and desire, the poster of his ‘dreams’ and possibly ‘flying’.
