What is the difference between skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle?

skeletal muscle is controlled by somatic innervation, which means it is controlled voluntarily. It is attached to bones, the extrinsic muscles of the eye, abdomen wall and the diaphragm. Contraction of skeletal allows us to move and interact within our environment and is made possible by the interaction of actin and myosin filaments. On the other hand, both cardiac and smooth muscle contraction is involuntary. Cardiac myocytes are located exclusively in the heart and are electrically couple via gap junctions, while smooth muscle lines much of the gastrointestinal tract and internal organs. It's contraction and relaxation wofts the movement of food through the digestive system for breakdown and nutrient absorption amongst other functions.
