There are 4 clear phases in mitosis that need to occur in a specific order so that a cell can successfully copy it's DNA and then divide. They are; prophase, metaphase, anaphase telophase and cytokinesis. In prophase the chromosome will condense, the mitotic spindle will form and the nuclear envelope will start to break down. In metaphase the chromosomes will meet at the middle of mitotic spindle and tubules will connect to the kinetochore of each chromosome. In anaphase the tubules will cause the chromatids to separate to opposite sides of the spindle pole. In Telophase the chromosomes will decondense at their opposite sides and the nuclear envelope will reform around each separately. In the final step known as cytokinesis the cell will separate into 2 cells.
