How do you revise for A level History?

Revising for A level History can be very overwhelming, however if you revise it in the correct way, you will have no trouble answering a question in the exam. The first thing you need to do is to revise the content inside out, so that you are extremely comfortable with the topics. This will mean that you are able to manipulate the content to fit into any essay question that you will be asked. Using notes, mind maps and flash cards are a great way to build up the knowledge into your head. After you have revised the content four or five times, planning essay questions are the key to getting that top grade. Even if know everything about a topic, if you can't express this knowledge into an essay, your mark at the end will not be reflective of the hard work you put in. Examiners are looking for how you can effectively condense the information you have learnt into an argument which is very convincing, as well as other possible counter arguments too. Therefore, getting hold of past papers, making up your own essay questions and planning these will help you answer the questions in the exam, as they will generally be similar - there are only so many questions they can ask on a topic! Finally, going through essay plans, combined with a final look over your content the week before your exam will benefit you hugely on the day.
