how to write an essay?

The most important thing to think about when writing an essay, is to make sure you understand the wording of the question, rephrase the question in a more simple term or break it down into parts, to ensure you are answering accurately and precisely. Then it comes to thinking about an argument, do you agree disagree with the question and why? - sometimes the question can be more generic in which case you can think of something from the text that struck you as being quite controversial, that can be a character, act or staging/ adaptation. To plan an essay I always begin by making a mindmap, with the 2/3 major points, attach a critical theory that either supports my argument or goes against it, find quotations that use linguistic devices that way you can argue and get in that technical analysis in. - Remember always keep explaining until you've answered the big 'WHY?' for example: through the use of the sibilance the author has managed to create an impression of danger -'WHY?'- to symbolise that womanhood is inherently sinful.
