How do I structure my essays?

It is important to define the words of the essay question that you have chosen in the introductory paragraph. By doing so you are informing the marker of the direction you have chosen and clearly show that you have an understanding of the question at hand. As long as you are clear as to the way you are interpreting the words of the question, and how it links to a particular text, you can be confident with your answer. When it comes to the body of the essay it's important to demonstrate your ability to respond to the question by linking back to it at the end of each paragraph. Every argument that you construct should be supported by evidence from the text and where relevant, critical analysis. It is not necessary to explain the plot of the text but comments on the text must be justified. It helps to form each paragraph around a certain approach but an overal argument should be threaded throughout. By the end of the essay, a conclusive paragraph should wrap up the ideas discussed throughout and clearly reflect on your answer.
