Outline the positive and negative effects of urban sprawl?

Define urban sprawl: urban sprawl is the outward growth of urban areas. As people move to urban areas the need for land to build on increases so the suburbs spread out.The positive effects are business owners can move their companies into less-competitive areas with more space for expansion and often cheaper rent. Secondly, people can have more accessibility to airports and motor ways as these tend to be outside of cities. Also, land in low-density areas tends to be cheaper and larger, so housing can be bought more cheaply than in a city. However, the negative effects are mostly linked to the environment. Urban sprawl encourages the degradation of agriculture and increases the pollution and congestion in rural-urban fringe areas. Urban sprawl can have an impact on the eco-systems and habitats of animals which can be a issue for biodiversity.
