What does the term "Carrying Capacity" mean?

There are varying definitions of this term, depending on its context. For example, carrying capacity in biotic environments such as rainforests,is the maximum population size of the species that the environment can sustain indefinitely.. The term sustain is the key word. Likewise, the carrying capacity of a tourist spot is the maximum tourist population that the area can sustain without damaging the environment.
