How do you use the subjunctive?

The subjunctive is used in several different cases, for instance, following the set phrase "bien que" or in expressions of wishing or doubt. The subjunctive is not a tense but a mood, so does not have a time period necessarily associated with it.Unlike spanish, the phrase "j'espere que" is followed by the indicative and not the subjunctive.
