What is the meaning of vector cross product?

A binary operation between two vectors it results in another vector perpendicular to the two input ones meaning it is the normal of the plane containing the two vectors involved in the operation. An advanced student may be interested to see the relation with the curl operator in higher order tensors but this is beyond Math HL.

Let f(x) = px^2 + qx - 4p, where p is different than 0. Showing your working, find the number of roots for f(x) = 0.
