Deoxygenated blood from the body is delivered to the right atrium by the vena cava. The right atrium contracts and blood flows into the right atrium. The right ventricle then contracts and blood is pumped to the lungs via the pulmonary artery. When the blood has been oxygenated at the lungs, it travels back to the heart through the pulmonary vein, entering the left atrium. When the left atrium contracts, blood enters the left ventricle to be pumped to the rest of the body by the aorta.
