Explain the significance of the title of the play "A Streetcar Named Desire" in reference to the events and characters in the play.

The streetcar has a fixed route: it is predetermined and cannot changed. In the same way, the fate of Blanche is predetermined due to her character flaws. She is driven by longing and desire for a perfect man and a perfect life and this leads to her downfall. Hence, why the streetcar is named "Desire". The title is foreshadowing for the end of the play.
