What are the main components of an animal cell? What are their functions?

Cell membrane - semi-permeable barrier, allowing some substances in but not otherscytoplasm - material in the cell which contains dissolved salts, minerals and organelles. mitochondria - Where respiration takes place, the 'powerhouse' of the cell. ribosome - Where protein synthesis takes placenucleus - Where genetic material is kept, controls the cell.
