‘Germany was treated fairly at Versailles.’ How far do you agree with this statement? Explain your answer.

In history, answers have less to do with the actual content and more to do with how essays are structured. I have therefore given the structure which I would provide to a student at GCSE level and explained at each point how it should be approached. I would be able to help a student understand content where necessary, but since there are unlimited topics which can be covered at GCSE and A-level, I am not qualified to know everything about each historical area of study.
Introduction- your introduction should set the scene, signpost, provide an argument and define terms.
Main body- use PEEL in order to structure your paragraphs. Make a POINT that your paragraph will be structured around, give a piece of EVIDENCE and EXPLAIN why this matters. Then LINK back to the question in order to show that your answer is focused. 3-4 paragraphs should be the aim.
Conclusion- in your conclusion you should not be saying anything that you haven't already said. The point of the conclusion is to succinctly summarise what you've already said and state your key arguments once more.
