Wildfires are uncontrolled fires that spread quickly trough woodlands and impact both people and the environment. The first main impact to people would be the direct life threat that wildfire has on populations living in close areas if the evacuation is not fast enough. The impact can also be felt by populations located far away from the fire as the smoke travels to long distances and can negatively impact air quality, endangering people with respiratory issues. Finally the impact on people is economical. Wildfires usually cause damage to private properties and infrastructures and entail a reconstruction process that is costly and time-consuming.
Secondly, wildfires will impact the environments through the destruction of biodiversity and habitats. The direct effect will be the loss of a large amount of vegetation and of animals living in the area. Going a little bit further, the environmental impact will eventually have consequences on the population. Indeed, the long-term consequences of the fire can include : degradation of the soil - a loss of nutrients which would be an issue for agricultural purpose; the carbon sequestration and storage ( because of a lack of vegetation) which is especially important in this time of climate emergency; and possible erosions caused by the significant amount of water used to control the fire.
