Discuss different forms of coastal management

The UK uses sediment cells to manage its coastal areas. Different management plans are allocated to different areas often based on a cost benefit analysis. The plan implemented is often decided on the basis of what is most cost effective to protect. Types of coastal management include:Hard engineering- groynes, sea walls, re-curved sea walls (Scarborough), off shore barriers, rip rap, gabionsSoft Engineering- beach replenishment, beach regeneration (Plymouth), beach nourishment (sand imports from Norway), dune regenrationManaged retreat - case study Abbots Hall Farm, Essex, creates a salt marsh that acts as a natural sea defence instead of using and maintaining hard engineeringDo nothing e.g. Happisburgh on the Holderness coast
