There are 25 CD's in a box and an individual orders 14 boxes. How many CD's did the person order in total

as there are 25 CD's in one box, then we would multiply by 14 to know the total number of CD's, we use multiplication as it is quicker than adding 25 14 times. I would then show the column multiplication method to the student and simplify the meaning of it. To ensure they understand I would give them a similar example to ensure that they have grasped the understanding of that question so that if they come across a similar question again they know how to tackle it.
