Explain what happens to plant shoots when sunlight only reaches one side of the tip

Due to sunlight only reaching one side of the tip, the plant hormone auxin will gather on the shaded side. As the auxin is acting in the plant shoot, it promotes cell division and elongation of the shaded plant cells. The unequal distribution of auxin leads to the shaded side growing more than the side receiving sunlight, resulting in the plant shoot growing towards the source of light. This whole process can be labelled as positive phototropism.
