Choosing which medical school is right for you can be a lengthy and stressful process, but to make this easier I would advice the student to think about the following points:1) Firstly, they need to consider the style of medical course. This could be PBL (problem based learning), Traditional or Integrated. 2) They need to consider which exam grades they would need and which entrance exams they would need to take, for example the BMAT or UKCAT. 3) I personally would advise that they visit the university to get a feel of it themselves- its important to know whether it is a campus or city university, what's available at the university for them to get involved in and perhaps, to find out a bit more about the medical school union as it will play a large part in their lives at medical school.4) Many of the university courses differ by BSc options and whether a BSc year is compulsory or not. This is also a factor to take into account as it prolongs the course by 1 year.5) You could also consider what research opportunities the university could offer you, if that interests you. Having thought about these factors before you actually apply is really helpful during the medical school interviews A common question is 'why did you apply to our university'. They will greatly appreciate the fact that you made a rational and balanced decision on why you applied to their university.
