Find the value of x in the equation 3x + 5 = 11

x is a positive number - the question for us is what the value of x is. To find this, we will have to rearrange the equation given. There are multiple ways of doing this. Firstly, we can make the equation simpler with simple subtraction; removing 5 from 11. That gives 3x = 6. We know that x is multiplied by 3, to equal 6. Therefore, we can again rearrange the equation in order to "move" the 3 over to the right hand side of the equation. Dividing by 3, this gives the answer of x = 2.

How do I expand (x - 4)(2x + 3y)^2 ?

Solve the simultaneous equations: 6x +2y = 2 and 12x - 3y = 18

A different pattern is made using 20 straight lines and 16 arcs. The straight lines and arcs are made of metal. 20 straight lines cost £12 and the cost of one straight line: cost of one arc = 2:3. Work out the total cost of metal in the pattern.

Factorise this formula completely 2kx + 6ky + 4kz
