Find the value of x in the equation 3x + 5 = 11

x is a positive number - the question for us is what the value of x is. To find this, we will have to rearrange the equation given. There are multiple ways of doing this. Firstly, we can make the equation simpler with simple subtraction; removing 5 from 11. That gives 3x = 6. We know that x is multiplied by 3, to equal 6. Therefore, we can again rearrange the equation in order to "move" the 3 over to the right hand side of the equation. Dividing by 3, this gives the answer of x = 2.
