Explain why globalisation results in cultural erosion in some parts of the world

Globalisation often results in cultural erosion in some parts of the world through TNCs which can bring new services or products into a country. These services or products often reflect and impose Western cultural ideas and in turn, they erode local or traditional services and products. This type of cultural erosion can be seen in Tehran, Iran where a Barbie doll ban was suggested in the 1990s as the dolls were wearing swimsuits or miniskirts and were therefore seen as a 'manifestation of Western culture' in an Islamic society where women must wear headscarves in public. Here, it could be argued that the globalisation and westernisation that comes with TNCs is thus threatening and eroding the Islamic culture in Iran.
