Using a genetic diagram, identify the genotypes of the F2 generation of pea pods if a homozygous green pod and a homozygous yellow pod were crossed initially. The yellow pod contained recessive alleles (g).

A homozygous green pod will have a GG genotype while a homozygous yellow pod will have gg. Each parent has two alleles but only one is passed to an individual offspring via the gametes. In this case, the possible gametes are G and g. If we do a genetic diagram we will get 100% of heterozygous green pods (Gg), our F1 generation. To find the genotypes of the F2 generation we cross the F1 (Gg x Gg). The possible gametes here are G and g for both parents. If we do a genetic diagram we will get four possible combinations and both parental traits (green/yellow pods) will appear. Through the diagram (shown below) we can see that the F2 genotypes are: GG Gg Gg and gg. G gG GG Ggg Gg gg
