A cricket player throws a ball such that it travels 10 meters in 2 seconds at constant acceleration. Calculate the kinetic energy of the ball if it has a mass of 1kg.

This problem can be broken up into two steps:1) Finding the speed (velocity) of the ball2) Finding the kinetic energy. To find the speed we can use the equation shown: Speed= Distance/Time or in standard notation : v=d/t, where v is speed ( often called velocity), d is distance and t is time. Here d=10 and t=2.So v= 10/2= 5 m/s.Note the unit for speed is m/s for meters per second. Now we have the speed we can do the second step, finding the kinetic energy.Using the equation Kinetic energy = 0.5mv2Where m is the mass of the ball.We can see that the kinetic energy of the ball is, 0.515*5 = 12.5 J.Note that the unit of kinetic energy is J for Joules.
