Describe the steps involved in mitosis and name the exact stages (6)

  1. Interphase: DNA and organelles replicate 2) Prophase: Chromosomes condense (and become visible! - made up of two sister chromatids joined by centromere), nuclear membrane breaks down, and centrioles move to poles 3) Metaphase: Chromosomes line up on the equator, spindle forms and attaches to the centromere 4) Anaphase: Centromeres splot and chromatids are pulled apart to opposite poles 5) Telophase: Nuclear membrane reforms and cytokinesis occurs so the cytoplasm divides A really useful video to watch through for reinforcement of this concept after the lesson is complete (and also to be credited for the condensed explanation above!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCiv2O8oG6Q
