Describe the various functions of proteins in our body.

Enzymes: Enzymes are biological catalysts, meaning they speed up the rate of the reaction without being used up. An example of an enzyme is amylase, which is produced by the salivary glands and is involved in the breakdown of starch for digestion.
Tip: the name of an enzyme ends in -ase. (amylase)
Antibodies : Antibodies bind to antigens found on the surface of pathogens, enabling an immune response.
Hormones: Many hormones are proteins, for example insulin controls our blood glucose levels.
Transport: Transport proteins bind molecules to move them around the body. For example, haemoglobin transports oxygen in the blood.
