Explain the formation of a destructive and constructive plate boundary, and describe where they are around the world.

A Destructive plate boundary is when the oceanic and continental plates move together. The oceanic plate is forced under the lighter continental plate. Friction causes melting of the oceanic plate which may trigger earthquakes. Diagrams can be drawn of the heavier oceanic plate falling below the continental plate. Top students will describe formations of volcanoes, mountains and ocean trenches. Destructive plate boundaries are found on the Eurasian and pacific plates, ring of fire is essential to mention. Constructive plate boundaries is when the plates pull apart and new land is created. As the plates move apart magma rises from the mantle to the earth's surface. The rising magma forms shield volcanoes. This is most evident along the mid-Atlantic ridge where the sea floor is spreading on the North American and Eurasian plate (through Iceland).Diagrams of both margins can also be drawn for clearer, more comprehensive answers.
