Can you describe four variables which affect the rate of a chemical reaction and how they affect the rate?

  1. Temperature: A higher temperature increases the rate of a reaction by increasing the number of particles with enough energy to take part in a reaction.
    2) Particle size: The smaller the particle size the greater the rate of reaction. Smaller particle size means a larger surface area of the solid and therefore the greater the number of collisions between molecules which might react.
    3) Pressure: Similar to the above. Greater pressure means more particles in a volume and therefore the higher chance of a successful reaction between molecules.
    4) Concentration: Similar to the above. Higher concentrations results in greater rate of reaction.
