What is Mitosis?

During mitosis, one cell divides into two daughter cells.

First, the cell grows and doubles the amount of DNA (in human cells from 23 pairs of chromosomes to 46 pairs of chromosomes). During the different stages of mitosis, the chromosomes allign and are then puled apart. Two new cells form with both 23 pairs of chromosomes.
