Like with any other interview question, it is important to be realistic. Split the question in to two : the positives and the negatives. Here, the interviewers are looking to ensure that you have a sufficient understanding of both the appealing and more difficult aspects of the life of a doctor. Using observations from work experience to back your answers up would be fantastic, but don't worry if you can't.Some positive aspects that you could mention:The satisfaction from being able to have an impact on someone else's lifeIt is a dynamic job - no day is the same as the other It is a stimulating job, there is always something new to learnYou will have the opportunity to work with many different professionals - this is specifically important when you're a doctor as teamwork is a big part of the jobSome negative aspects that you could mention:There are many daily challenges which means that there is not always a straightforward answer- you may be asked to elaborate on this and this is where work experience could be incorporated in to your answerThe stress that comes with being a doctor- you may then be asked how you would cope with thisDelivering bad news to families- you should ensure that you know that it will not be easy but that you are aware of the available support networks for doctorsIt is important to understand that the interviewers do not expect you to mention all of these points. If you concentrate on doing so, it may be the case that you run out of time so be careful about this. Try not to mention all the positives at once and then all the negatives ( or vice versa) - a balanced answer is always best. One piece of advice that I would give to you is that you finish on a positive note.
