Explain why the balloons inflate in the bell jar model of the lungs, when the rubber sheet is pulled down. (3 marks)

When the sheet is pulled down, the volume in the jar increasesThis causes the pressure in the jar to decreaseTherefore, air enters the balloon, down the pressure gradient, causing the inflation.
