Find the volume of a right angled triangular prism with an angle of 28 degrees, hypotenuse of length 10 cm, and projected length of 12.5 cm. Give your answer in cm^3, to three significant figures.

The area of a prism is found by multiplying the area of the end face by the projected length. The adjacent and opposite side lengths of the triangle can be found using SOHCAHTOA. sin(28)= opposite/10, therefore opposite= 10sin(28). cos(28)=adjacent/10, therefore adjacent=10cos(28).This gives opposite= 4.6947 and adjacent= 8.8295 (4 d.p.)Next, to find the area of the triangle, we use A=(b x h)/2.(4.6947 x 8.8295)/2= 20.7259 (4 d.p.)Finally, we multiply this area by the projected length, 12.5.12.5 x 20.7259= 259.074...=259cm^3 (3 s.f.)
